Netherlands Visa From UAE
UAE residents apply for a Netherlands visa in Dubai or Abu Dhabi at VFS Global, after filling in the Dutch online application form. The same centres also take Schengen applications for Luxembourg. Emirati passport holders don't need a visa.
The Dutch government is direct about intermediaries: NetherlandsWorldwide advises booking your VFS appointment yourself, not through an agent. We follow that advice, and explain below where document support genuinely helps.

In short: UAE residents apply for a Netherlands Schengen visa by completing the Dutch online form, booking a VFS Global appointment themselves in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and lodging in person up to six months and at least 15 days before travel. The visa fee is €90, and the same centres accept Luxembourg applications.
What's current
Schengen rules in 2026
- Schengen fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, unchanged since June 2024. The service provider's fee is charged separately in dirhams.
- Entry/Exit System: fully operational since 10 April 2026. Your first entry is registered biometrically at the border instead of a passport stamp.
- ETIAS: still not running, and no applications are accepted anywhere yet. It will only ever apply to visa-exempt travellers, such as Emirati citizens, not to Schengen visa holders.
- One visa, 29 countries: a visa issued by the Dutch consular authorities lets you travel across the whole Schengen Area within its validity and permitted days.

What is a Netherlands Schengen visa?
A Dutch Schengen visa (Type C) is for visits to the Netherlands of up to 90 days, such as holidays, business or seeing family, and lets you travel in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180. Apply for the Netherlands if it's your main destination.
Your visa may be valid for fewer days than you asked for, so check it on collection. Longer stays, such as joining a partner, need the MVV long-stay route instead.
The Schengen Area has 29 member countries, and a visa issued by one lets you move between all of them within its validity and permitted days.

UAE residents (expats)
You can apply at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi if you live in the UAE; NetherlandsWorldwide notes the centres also take applicants who live in Afghanistan. If you live somewhere else, you normally apply in your country of residence, and must first check whether applying in the UAE is possible.
UAE citizens
NetherlandsWorldwide confirms that holders of an Emirati passport don't need a visa to visit the Netherlands. See EES and ETIAS below.

Latest eligibility requirements
These are the current conditions for a Netherlands visa from the UAE, as published by the Dutch consular authorities and its service provider.
- Residence in the UAE, shown by a valid residence visa and Emirates ID. Check the VFS checklist for the validity required.
- A passport issued in the last 10 years, valid three months after you leave Schengen, with two blank pages (EU Visa Code rule).
- The Netherlands (or Luxembourg) as your main destination.
- An application lodged up to six months before travel (nine months for seafarers) and at least 15 days before.
- Your own online application form, which carries a unique code. NetherlandsWorldwide warns against using someone else's form.
- Travel medical insurance of at least €30,000, valid in all Schengen states.

Biometrics
Biometrics requirements
At your appointment you give fingerprints if you're 12 or older. NetherlandsWorldwide states that you must appear in person even if you're under 18.
Under EU rules, applicants aged 12 and over give ten fingerprints and a digital photo when they apply. Fingerprints already stored in the Visa Information System (VIS) from an application in the last 59 months can be reused, although the mission may still ask you to attend in person.
Biometrics are now also taken at the border for your first entry under the EU's Entry/Exit System.

- Book online with VFS Global UAE. NetherlandsWorldwide advises you to avoid unnecessary costs by booking the appointment yourself rather than through an intermediary.
- Make a separate appointment for each person.
- To change or cancel, contact VFS Global in the UAE.
- Orange Carpet applicants use the same VFS booking and bring the extra company documents.

Processing time
The legal standard is a decision within 15 calendar days, which can be extended in individual cases. NetherlandsWorldwide publishes current waiting times; apply at least 15 days before travel, and earlier in peak season.
Emirati passport holders
Visa waiver, EES and ETIAS for UAE citizens
NetherlandsWorldwide confirms Emirati passport holders don't need a visa for the Netherlands for short visits.
Entry/Exit System (EES)
Since 10 April 2026 the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders. It replaces passport stamping for non-EU short-stay travellers, including visa holders and visa-exempt visitors such as Emirati citizens, and records your biometric data at your first crossing. Expect a registration step at the border on your first trip.
ETIAS travel authorisation
ETIAS, the EU's travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not operating yet, and no applications are being accepted anywhere. The EU says it will announce the start date several months in advance; the earlier target of late 2026 is widely reported to be slipping into 2027. Once it launches, Emirati citizens will need an approved ETIAS (fee €20, generally valid for three years) before travelling. Schengen visa holders do not need ETIAS. Only use the official EU website when the time comes.
Avoid these
Common reasons for delays or refusal
The EU's standard refusal form lists the grounds a mission can cite. The most common are:
- False, counterfeit or forged documents were submitted.
- The purpose and conditions of the stay were not justified.
- You did not show enough money for the stay and the return journey.
- You have already spent 90 days in the Schengen Area in the current 180-day period.
- An alert in the Schengen Information System (SIS) prevents entry.
- Statements or documents were judged unreliable.
- The mission could not establish that you intend to leave before the visa expires.
- No valid travel medical insurance was provided.
Netherlands-specific pitfalls we see
- Using someone else's application form, without your own unique code.
- Lodging under the checklist for a secondary purpose instead of your primary one.
Common causes of delay
Delays usually come from incomplete files, peak-season volumes (summer and the December holidays), requests for extra documents or an interview, and prior consultation with other Schengen states for certain nationalities.
If your visa is refused
If your application is refused, you receive a letter explaining why. NetherlandsWorldwide sets out the options if you disagree, including filing an objection within the deadline stated in the letter.

Travel tips
- Fill in the form yourself on the official portal so your file carries its own unique code.
- Mainly visiting Luxembourg? You can apply at the same Dutch-run centres in the UAE.
- When you collect your passport, compare the visa dates with your flights. If the visa starts after your departure date, contact the consulate-general in Dubai before you fly.
- If your employer trades with Dutch partners, ask HR whether the company is registered for Orange Carpet.
