Norway Visa From UAE
A Norway visa from Dubai or Abu Dhabi starts online, not at the visa centre. You register your application in the UDI's Application Portal Norway and pay the €90 fee there first, then hand in documents and biometrics at VFS Global. The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi decides, and some files go on to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).
Norway isn't in the EU but it is in Schengen. Allow extra time, because documents travel by courier between VFS and the embassy. Emirati citizens don't need a visa.

What's current
Schengen rules in 2026
- Schengen fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, unchanged since June 2024. The service provider's fee is charged separately in dirhams.
- Entry/Exit System: fully operational since 10 April 2026. Your first entry is registered biometrically at the border instead of a passport stamp.
- ETIAS: still not running, and no applications are accepted anywhere yet. It will only ever apply to visa-exempt travellers, such as Emirati citizens, not to Schengen visa holders.
- One visa, 29 countries: a visa issued by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi lets you travel across the whole Schengen Area within its validity and permitted days.

What is a Norway Schengen visa?
A Norwegian visitor's visa is a Schengen visa for up to 90 days over a 180-day period in Norway and the other Schengen countries, for tourism, family visits or business. Norway normally issues single-entry visas. If you'll leave Schengen and come back, for example to visit the UK, you must request two or more entries and explain why.
Svalbard belongs to Norway but isn't part of Schengen, so a Svalbard trip needs a visa with two or more entries.
The Schengen Area has 29 member countries, and a visa issued by one lets you move between all of them within its validity and permitted days.

Who can apply: UAE residents and UAE citizens
UAE residents (expats)
You need a valid residence permit in the UAE, and your passport must be from a country the Abu Dhabi embassy covers. The embassy adds a specific note: if you hold a UAE passport but a different, non-UAE nationality, apply for the visa in your national passport.
UAE citizens
The embassy confirms that UAE passport holders with UAE nationality don't need a visa to enter Norway. See EES and ETIAS below.

Latest eligibility requirements
These are the current conditions for a Norway visa from the UAE, as published by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its service provider.
- A valid UAE residence permit.
- A passport valid at least three months after your planned departure from the Schengen Area.
- Funds of at least NOK 500 per day of your stay, or a sponsorship guarantee from your host.
- Travel health insurance of at least €30,000, covering repatriation, emergency treatment and death, valid across Schengen for the whole stay.
- An application lodged up to six months ahead (nine for seafarers) and no later than 15 days before travel. The embassy recommends at least four weeks because of courier time.
- Certified translations of documents into English or Norwegian where needed.

Biometrics
Biometrics requirements
You give fingerprints and a photo at VFS unless your fingerprints were taken within the last 59 months. The embassy may also ask for an interview, held by video link at VFS, or a DNA test in family cases. It normally doesn't hold interviews from May to September, the visa high season.
Under EU rules, applicants aged 12 and over give ten fingerprints and a digital photo when they apply. Fingerprints already stored in the Visa Information System (VIS) from an application in the last 59 months can be reused, although the mission may still ask you to attend in person.
Biometrics are now also taken at the border for your first entry under the EU's Entry/Exit System.
Appointments
Norway visa appointment process
- Register and pay in the UDI portal before you book with VFS.
- In a July 2026 update the embassy said it aims to offer VFS appointments within three working days.
- The embassy states it has no cooperation with visa agents, that VFS Global is its only partner, and it strongly advises applicants not to use visa agents.
- Send questions about your application to the VFS office where you applied; contact the embassy's visa section only if VFS asks you to or can't answer.
- If you give someone power of attorney, all communication about your application goes to them, not to you.

Applicants who are exempt from the fee have it refunded. Optional VFS services aren't included in the service fee.
Processing time
Processing is normally up to 15 calendar days after the embassy receives the application. Transit between VFS and the embassy can take 7 to 10 days on top. When a case goes to UDI or needs more time, processing can take up to 45 calendar days.
Emirati passport holders
Visa waiver, EES and ETIAS for UAE citizens
The Royal Norwegian Embassy confirms that UAE passport holders with UAE nationality don't need a visa to enter Norway.
Entry/Exit System (EES)
Since 10 April 2026 the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders. It replaces passport stamping for non-EU short-stay travellers, including visa holders and visa-exempt visitors such as Emirati citizens, and records your biometric data at your first crossing. Expect a registration step at the border on your first trip.
ETIAS travel authorisation
ETIAS, the EU's travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not operating yet, and no applications are being accepted anywhere. The EU says it will announce the start date several months in advance; the earlier target of late 2026 is widely reported to be slipping into 2027. Once it launches, Emirati citizens will need an approved ETIAS (fee €20, generally valid for three years) before travelling. Schengen visa holders do not need ETIAS. Only use the official EU website when the time comes.

Common reasons for delays or refusal
The EU's standard refusal form lists the grounds a mission can cite. The most common are:
- False, counterfeit or forged documents were submitted.
- The purpose and conditions of the stay were not justified.
- You did not show enough money for the stay and the return journey.
- You have already spent 90 days in the Schengen Area in the current 180-day period.
- An alert in the Schengen Information System (SIS) prevents entry.
- Statements or documents were judged unreliable.
- The mission could not establish that you intend to leave before the visa expires.
- No valid travel medical insurance was provided.
Norway-specific pitfalls we see
- Documents submitted without certified translations.
- Funds below NOK 500 per day, with no sponsorship form.
- Requesting multiple entries without documenting why they're needed.
Common causes of delay
Delays usually come from incomplete files, peak-season volumes (summer and the December holidays), requests for extra documents or an interview, and prior consultation with other Schengen states for certain nationalities.
If your visa is refused
A refusal comes with a written explanation, and you can appeal. The appeal letter and any extra documents are uploaded through UDI's 'Send documents to UDI' service. Follow the deadline in your decision letter.
Before you fly
Travel tips
- Don't buy flight tickets until the visa is granted, as the embassy recommends.
- Plan side trips to the UK or Svalbard now, so you request the right number of entries.
- Budget at least NOK 500 per day and show it clearly in your statements.
- Apply four weeks or more before you fly to absorb courier time.
- At the border, carry cash or a card, your hotel reservation and return ticket. Fingerprints may be compared with your visa file.
