Spain Visa From UAE
For a Spain visa from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, your file goes through BLS International, not VFS Global, and is decided by the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi. BLS runs Spain Visa Application Centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and sends applications to the embassy the next working day.
Spain is stricter than most on a few points for UAE residents: a passport valid six months from the application date, a minimum three-week processing time, and firm rules on dependants' bank statements.

In short: UAE residents apply for a Spain Schengen visa at BLS International in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. BLS listed the adult visa fee at AED 388 plus a AED 73 service fee, the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi decides, and the embassy's minimum processing time is three weeks.
What's current
Schengen rules in 2026
- Schengen fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, unchanged since June 2024. The service provider's fee is charged separately in dirhams.
- Entry/Exit System: fully operational since 10 April 2026. Your first entry is registered biometrically at the border instead of a passport stamp.
- ETIAS: still not running, and no applications are accepted anywhere yet. It will only ever apply to visa-exempt travellers, such as Emirati citizens, not to Schengen visa holders.
- One visa, 29 countries: a visa issued by the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi lets you travel across the whole Schengen Area within its validity and permitted days.

What is a Spain Schengen visa?
A Spanish Schengen visa is a short-stay visa (Type C) for up to 90 days within 180 days, issued when Spain is your main destination. BLS's guidance is that if you'll spend the same time in two or more Schengen countries, you apply to the country of first entry.
It covers tourism, business, medical treatment and transit. Spain's national visas, such as non-lucrative residence, study or teleworker visas, are separate procedures that BLS also handles.
The Schengen Area has 29 member countries, and a visa issued by one lets you move between all of them within its validity and permitted days.

UAE residents (expats)
BLS states that Spain accepts applications only from legal UAE residents, and its tourism page refers to a minimum residence period of one year. If your residence visa is newer than that, confirm with BLS before you book. Applicants over 12 attend in person for biometrics.
UAE citizens
Emirati citizens don't need a visa for Spain for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. See EES and ETIAS below.

Latest eligibility requirements
These are the current conditions for a Spain visa from the UAE, as published by the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi and its service provider.
- Legal UAE residence, with BLS referring to a minimum residence period of one year.
- A passport valid at least six months from the date of application, with a blank page for the visa. The embassy doesn't accept extra pages added to passports.
- Spain as your main destination, or your first entry if stays are equal.
- Travel insurance of at least €30,000 from an insurer based in Europe or the UAE, reimbursable in the EU, Switzerland or Liechtenstein, and valid in all Schengen states for the whole stay.
- An application lodged no more than 180 days before travel, and at least three weeks before, given the embassy's minimum processing time.

- Dependants applying without the sponsor presentThe sponsor's NOC, passport and residence copies; the sponsor's employment letter or trade licence; and original personal bank statements for the last six months showing salary transfers. The embassy doesn't accept internet statements.
- MinorsBirth certificate, and an NOC signed by both parents at the centre in front of the BLS officer, with original passports. A letter from the non-travelling parent if travelling with one parent.
BLS publishes separate checklists for tourism, business, medical, transit, domestic helpers and EU family members. The embassy can request any other document or call you for an interview.
The process
Application process: Spain visa from Dubai and the UAE
- Check eligibilityPassport six months from application, legal residence, Spain as main destination.
- Book at BLS InternationalChoose Dubai or Abu Dhabi in BLS's Spain appointment portal, one booking per applicant.
- Prepare the fileFollow the checklist for your category, with originals where BLS asks for them.

Biometrics
Biometrics requirements
Applicants aged 12 and over give fingerprints at the BLS centre, and BLS notes that children aged 12 to 18 must attend for biometrics too.
Under EU rules, applicants aged 12 and over give ten fingerprints and a digital photo when they apply. Fingerprints already stored in the Visa Information System (VIS) from an application in the last 59 months can be reused, although the mission may still ask you to attend in person.
Biometrics are now also taken at the border for your first entry under the EU's Entry/Exit System.
Appointments
Spain visa appointment process
- Book on BLS International's Spain portal for the Dubai or Abu Dhabi centre. Each applicant needs their own appointment.
- Spain is one of the most requested Schengen destinations from the UAE, so start early for summer and year-end trips.
- If your travel date falls inside the normal processing time, BLS asks you to sign a declaration when you submit.
- Passports can be collected between 3 pm and 4 pm, or returned by courier.

These are the amounts BLS listed on 19 September 2026. The visa fee is the €90 or €45 Schengen fee converted to dirhams, so it can move with exchange rates. All payments are non-refundable.
Processing time
According to BLS, the Embassy of Spain has set a minimum processing time of three weeks, so apply at least three weeks before travel, and earlier in peak season. Processing starts the day after BLS receives your application. The embassy may also archive a granted visa that isn't collected within a month of notification.
Emirati passport holders
Visa waiver, EES and ETIAS for UAE citizens
Emirati citizens don't need a visa for Spain for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Entry/Exit System (EES)
Since 10 April 2026 the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Schengen external borders. It replaces passport stamping for non-EU short-stay travellers, including visa holders and visa-exempt visitors such as Emirati citizens, and records your biometric data at your first crossing. Expect a registration step at the border on your first trip.
ETIAS travel authorisation
ETIAS, the EU's travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not operating yet, and no applications are being accepted anywhere. The EU says it will announce the start date several months in advance; the earlier target of late 2026 is widely reported to be slipping into 2027. Once it launches, Emirati citizens will need an approved ETIAS (fee €20, generally valid for three years) before travelling. Schengen visa holders do not need ETIAS. Only use the official EU website when the time comes.

Common reasons for delays or refusal
The EU's standard refusal form lists the grounds a mission can cite. The most common are:
- False, counterfeit or forged documents were submitted.
- The purpose and conditions of the stay were not justified.
- You did not show enough money for the stay and the return journey.
- You have already spent 90 days in the Schengen Area in the current 180-day period.
- An alert in the Schengen Information System (SIS) prevents entry.
- Statements or documents were judged unreliable.
- The mission could not establish that you intend to leave before the visa expires.
- No valid travel medical insurance was provided.
Spain-specific pitfalls we see
- A passport with less than six months' validity at application, or with added pages.
- Dependants lodging online bank statements instead of the sponsor's original statements.
- Insurance from a company outside Europe or the UAE, or without reimbursement in the EU.
Common causes of delay
Delays usually come from incomplete files, peak-season volumes (summer and the December holidays), requests for extra documents or an interview, and prior consultation with other Schengen states for certain nationalities.
If your visa is refused
BLS states that applicants who lodged at BLS Dubai can appeal to the embassy, after meeting the requirements set out in the refusal letter, without booking a new appointment, and can track the appeal online. The standard refusal form lists numbered grounds, so a strong appeal or re-application answers each ground point by point.
Before you fly
Travel tips
- Check your passport's expiry against the six-month rule before booking.
- Get original, bank-stamped statements for a dependant's sponsor.
- Allow at least three weeks after the appointment, and more in June to August.
- Keep the insurance certificate in your hand luggage.
- Check the visa details when you collect, and report errors to the embassy straight away.
